Magdalena {Got The Blues}

So, since I have absolutely no idea how to start this post, I’ll just cut to the chase. After a considerable amount of contemplation and a whole month of trying to mask the issue (which got me exactly nowhere, except sick. twice), I’ve decided to finally confess. I’ve got the blues. And whether I like it or not, it’s here to stay for a while longer. Since wallowing in despair doesn’t quite fit the definition of CHIC, I’ll save you the details and only say that dealing with a real loss is never easy, and as I have no further ideas except probably the most worn out cliché of “only time will heal” you seemed to be destined to go through that with me…

I wonder if Magdalena ever has “The Blues?”

Ice Princess

I know it’s not even November, but before you notice New-York will be covered in snow, and the street will be wearing Black & Grey. And not that there’s anything wrong with either, but there’s absolutely nothing more refreshing than seeing a colorfully crafted outfit down the street mid-January, shinning away against all the greys… And as a continuation to my obsession with Teen Vogue:

Considering it was SNOWING all day in NYC – this editorial couldn’t be more relevant!

The {Oversized} Shirt

Well, you can’t say I haven’t warned you, so, as “scheduled” more blacks coming your way…  All I have to say is bear with me, I promise some color in the near future!

I found this over-sized 80′s shirt in one of my favorite thrift stores on the East side, Downtown Manhattan, and it’s been one of the pieces I wore the most this season. I just love the big proportion on top paired with a short, slim skirt. It’s such an easy look, the kind you don’t think twice about and yet somehow I always get compliments while wearing this shirt!

Eternally Black Eternally Chic

As my Black-Phase continues (untill further notice) I decided to look into one of the women that carries black like no other, Kate Lanpher. The American born style-phenomenon, has  held posts at both Vogue Australia and Harper’s Bazaar and most recently, been appointed Senior Style Director at US Elle.

Regardless to the fact she’s a flawless pixie, I find her somewhat boyish style completely irresistible. She always has the perfect balance between simple items and just the right touch of “hard-wear”… I also noticed she makes grey & black, a combination I haven’t found as particularly appealing so far, work so well together. Hmm.

*Sparkle*

I don’t know if you have noticed, but I’ve been having one of my black phases… Once in a while, I have this need to wear only black, it can go on for days and sometimes even months… The longest I’ve gone was two months (that’s when people start asking questions…), I guess in a way it’s like a safe territory, a way to neutralize…

Vintage wool-cashmere blend jacket (which kind of inspired this entire look, since it’s lined in silver silk), Skirt from H&M, Vintage Talbot’s sequins top, Vintage chain belt (recently seen here- as a necklace) and jewelry, Silver broach from the 80′s (I find it quite entertaing…) Sunnies courtesy of China-Town (of all places) and shoes from Aldo.

As for the tiny silver purse it was a very special gift and the black mesh evening-purse I lucked out and found in a thrift store!

It’s A Doll’s Life

I met Natalie in the very beginning of my arrival to New York. At the time, I was working around the clock on my design portfolio for a few schools in the city, and for one of them I decided to pull off an entire photo-shoot for proper representation of one completed garment that the assignment had asked for.

Being completely new to New-York, I had no idea how exactly would that happen since I didn’t know any photographers or models or for that matter not even a single make-up artist, but I was trying to stay positive. So, while searching for all the above I was exploring the city and after a long day of window-shopping in Soho, we sat down to grab a bite in a corner cafe and guess who was our waitress? I guess I was in luck to stumble upon that exact cafe and to be seated at that table… Since our first shoot about three years ago me and Natalie worked together quite a few times (including recently) but mostly we became close friends, and even though we both run on ridiculous schedules, every once in a while we’ll get some quality-girls-time and catch up over a cup of coffee (or green tea…).

Here are a few of the images we ended up using from our first collaboration, shot by Daniel VanFlymen.

I figured the fact that Natalie has a Birthday today (!!!Happy Birthday Luv!!!) is the perfect excuse to share some of these with you guys…

Come Fall

Pardon me for slightly neglecting my CHIC duties, after filtering down- I’d say- it’s been one hell of a week. But now, after the perfect shower, with my hair still damp, oozing fruity bliss, I’m more than happy to acknowledge it’s almost Friday!

It’s starts to cool down, and I must (shamefully) admit my wardrobe is still a complete mess, not even close to being ready for fall, summer knits scattered in (what started as) tidy stacks, next to what seems to be at least 15 sweaters I’m not entirely sure I’ll be keeping… Life. I honestly feel like I’ve been chasing my own tail this entire week, trying to keep up with my bookings ,school work and an unexpected “storm” (I keep forgetting I don’t have time for these…..)

And as a perfect finale to that necessary “report” I’ll leave you with this quite adorable editorial from ELLE France………. I adore the whimsical yet practical styling, makes me crave for prints…!

Just for One Day…

Yesterday was “one of those days”. The last thing I wanted to do was my “adult-life” never-ending to do list… Sometimes I just want time to freeze, and allow me to escape, just for one day, and try to remember the “why”s and and the “how”s and try to look upon everything in between the way I used to…

These were taken by Nirrimi, from “We live young”. The first time I wondered in to her blog, I was nothing short of absolutely astonished, I think I spent hours browsing through the archives, admiring her rare sensitivity to beauty. Her images always seem to tell a story, to evoke an emotion… Nirrimi says “it’s a tough job to choose which moments to keep alive forever” but it seems to me, she’s got it all figured out…
