{Russian Affairs}

One of the “perks” in my visits back home is a dip in quite a bit of Russian “affairs”… Although my family resides on the shores of the Mediterranean for the past 18 years, some things will never change within the core…

So, considering the relentless loyalty, the house is full to the brim with Russian books, current print and inevitably a lively connection to the satellite dish… And despite the fact that I consider myself a huge fan of Russian literature the later was the one that captivated me so this time.

Watching modern Russian movies is one of the most humbling experiences I have had in a while. Similar to what I’ve witnessed in my last visit to Moscow, it seems as though otherworldly wealth and extravagant glamour are divided from heart crushing poverty and bleak hardship by a narrow, fragile bridge…

They both utilize the same roads in their daily routs, side by side, obeying or not the laws of traffic. One behind the wheel of a shiny sports car and the other packed in a stuffy, crowded communal ride…

Makes one think of high and the low, but mostly about the price of it all.

In the image above, one of the most inspiring young Russian actresses I’ve seen on-screen, Tatiana Arntgolds. Isn’t she the flawless merge between Grace Kelly and Olivia Wilde?
