{2012}

2012 Collage

What a year. It’s funny, it seems as though it was so long and eventful (to say the least!) but at the same time, the memory of this very day last year stands so fresh in my mind… I think that more than anything for me this year was all about pondering. The last 3 years were probably the most hectic {and game-changing} in my entire life and within all the commotion I rarely had the luxury to pause and just think about it all for a moment… This year I forced myself to reflect, to have a close look at who I’ve become, who I aspire to be and how long is the distance between the two. I think that this year, sort of against all odds -ironically- something clicked into placed and perhaps that’s just part of maturing but I’ve realized that some things just are what they are and that is ALRIGHT. It won’t come as a shock to you all when I say we live in a very competitive world in so many different aspects of life; our looks, our intelligence, our pockets, our fashionable taste buds, the amounts of our creativity, our endurance under the stress and our talent persistence are all put to the test of “fair” competition, day after day. And that is alright too, but the point is no matter how hard you try, you can never beat “the hand” and the cards you’ve been handed are the only ones you can use for your victory.The question is are you willing to learn the trade and use what you’ve got to produce the best outcome under the circumstances. I won’t sugar coat it guys, it’s been a tough one for me but at times also simply wonderful. Looking back on it all I can’t find the words to express my gratitude for all the incredible people life has sent my way; my talented friends without whom I could never make it through the year ,my handsome beau that challenges me every single day to be the best version of myself, my dear family that I miss so terribly and all the contributors I had the great honor working with this year under operation CHIC a’ la RUSSE! So before we move forward and set the tone for what’s to come, let’s have a look, shall we?

Eldad CarinThis year started out in Israel with a series of reunion collaborations with a dear friends, Eldad Carin and Alona Bell that I’ve known for years from my modeling days back home. Goes without saying these are a few of my favorite posts ever shot for the blog (see the full posts here, here, here and here) I can’t wait for the next time! Amir WeissAlong with good friends I had the chance to work with new collaborators, up and coming young Photographers from the industry in Israel. Lately I’ve been craving for something different and as we all know my wardrobe consists out of 80% mini-skirts/dresses so a longer hem was a nice change… I found this dress in a thrift store in Arizona and I must say, it totally revived my love to the whole Safari “theme”, so simple, so classic…

New York Fashion Week is never what I expect it to be, not sure if this is a lesson in expectations or just the natural way of life to make a point. When I was in high- school I remember having a default uniform for important occasions, it was always my favorite pair of jeans, a white tank top and my favorite tan leather accessories (high-school was a major brown leather phase…). Since then my “uniform” went through many transformations indeed, but the principle remains the same, it has to be simple and make me feel as comfortable as can be… Black mini-skirt has been my go-to for a couple of years now, it might not be the most fashion-forward-trendy approach, but lately I’ve become a much bigger advocate for finding my own sense of style, swaying away from a trend (unless I love it ;)

CHIC a' la RUSSE by Jacob Skoglund

Well I suppose there is really no way around it, back to reality, school started on Monday and to be completely honest I am excited to be back! I bet many of you would agree with me when I say there is something about structure that makes life a tad more comprehensive… Of course that back to New York means stashing my sneakers under the bed and opting for some stilettos…

I had this top for over a year and this is the first time it ever made an exit out of my room, what can I say? I guess it wasn’t time…! I found it in a flea market in the lower east side and simply had to have it… Paired with a Forever21 classic knit skirt, Silver Heels from ZARA and a clutch from Club Monaco. Sunnies from a thrift shop…

Photography by Jacob Skoglund, probably the youngest collaborator in the history of CHIC a’ la RUSSE, looking forward to our next rendezvous!

{Black & White} Encore

CHIC A LA RUSSE Black & White

Lately I had a recurring infatuation with the good old Black and White wining combination… It seems to me that no matter how you compile the two together, it always creates a sharp look with a timeless allure. Keeping things contemporary, if you ask me, is all about silhouette…. And if you’re following me for a while now, you probably have noticed that boxy is not my typical go to, but none the less, we all ought to try something new no??? I can’t tell you how long I have been looking for the perfect pair of white sunnies and I simply can’t stop wearing these! (In case you haven’t noticed, they are identical in shape to the ones featured on my previous *Eye Candy* post).

Oh and by the way, please do welcome aboard Jaehee Hwang, a new and unusual collaborator here on CHIC a’ la RUSSE. And the reason I say “unusual” is because Jae has an extensive background in Photography but from the Fine Arts point of view… See for yourself

*Eye Candy*

First seed in my Simple Act is a classic combination I can never pass on… Sometimes a crew neck T-shirt is all you need (and a pair of silver high heels of course…;)

I’m kind of in love with my new Nahui Ollin wrapper bag, it’s absolutely adorable, fits just the essentially and above all it’s made of recycled materials, carrying on with a greater mission then just eye candy (Oh, and I’m kind of big on recycling if you were wondering…). And if you’re following me on Instagram you know it’s not the only one I’ve fallen for!

{Neon Touch}

I almost feel like celebrating as I type in this post, it’s been literally FOREVER since I managed to squeeze in a proper attire collaboration! But I must say, and I think you’ll agree with me on this one, I was in luck striking an encounter with Barbara, our new Brazilian collaborator here on CHIC A LA’ RUSSE!

Those of you that live in New York, know how fickle the whether has been in the past few weeks… It’s extremely hot one day and raining a moment after! To me, the biggest issue running around in the summer is the AC’s… I hate carrying around a lot of stuff, but at the same time, I like to be warm enough to function when I’m indoors…! So, this new addition is a bright life-saver, apparently Rebecca Minkoff knows what she’s doing… This amazing silk scarf is probably my favorite piece at the moment, it’s current, elegant, and surprisingly caring… Not to mention it’s an immediate upgrade to any outfit…

Rebecca Minkoff Neon Silk Scarf, Michael Kors scallop top, H&M skirt, Sunnies I got from a thrift store, DKNY Shoes, Handbag from ALDO, Jewelry from Express, Vintage and H&M…

{Vested}

This winter was (and still is) all about vests, well at least in my world… This time around the weather in NYC hasn’t been as cold as I had expected and I find myself walk out the door armed with a vest, leaving my heavy coats in the closet… (I hope I haven’t just “jinxed” the weather!), I guess it keeps things more casual for every day affairs around the city, plus if it’s a bit more chilly I can always layer in over my leather jacket…

Puffy Vest by American Apparel, Jcrew cashmere sweater, Chanel Vintage blouse, Vintage Tennis skirt, Sunnies by KISS (Hmm, now that I think about it, it’s not the first time I pair these two together…), Belt from H&M and my fur-lined booties I got online (if I only had a recollection of the company responsible for these darlings…)

{Golden Tips}

It’s not often that I’m facing the key board and having trouble to form a thought - yet here I am… I guess sometimes I don’t have much to say, since I haven’t figured out just yet what to think – if that makes any sense…However, in the meantime, I hope you enjoy this ‘Proper Attire’ collaboration with Eldad on this black-gold combo…

I kind off fallen in love with the golden tips (nail polish…) and wanted to revolve my outfit around it…

Vintage blouse and Jacket, Skirt that I’ve made last semester, Sunnies by KISS, Vintage Saks Fifth Avenue golden clutch, Vintage bracelets and the chunky necklace I picked up in the garment district in NYC…
